Tavel Tips
Wardrobe:
- Bring light clothes and preferably made of cotton: temperatures are high and the environment is humid
- Always travel with sports shoes, there are several places where you could practice hiking.
- It is possible to buy special shoes to walk on coral on the island. `they are very important to avoid any cuts on the feet.
Entry tax to San Andres Island 2016:
At the airport, everyone, Colombian or not, has to pay an entry tax to the island. This receipt will also be requested if traveling to Providencia. The current cost of the tax is 25USD or $75.000 COP.
Note that according to Decree 0169 of April 15, 2016 issued by the Government of San Andres Island, Card Entrance to the Island (OCCRE) will increase to $99.000COP or 50USD from the card number 12969470. That is, still it does not have a specific date of application of this rate. We’ll be countingjust apply!
On the island
The first day we recommend to take a walk around the island to get familiar with the place. This tour takes about an hour.
For those who enjoy watching things closely, the best transportation options are golf carts and motorcycles.
In addition to tourist plans and packages there are other places and activities that can be enjoyed such as bird watching, diving, nightlife, the visit of ecotourism parks, among others.
Take care of the freshwater sources. Do not waste it when you’re in the hotel, the island has few sources of the precious liquid.
Health:
- Use mosquito repellent.
- Always wear sunscreen.
- Do not buy or consume seafood on boats. Is best if you only consume seafood in restaurants, on the mainland, to ensure it is fresh and prevent poisoning.
Nature:
- Do not buy crafts made of shells, coral, tortoiseshell or other natural materials.
- Do not remove shells, fauna or flora from the island. At the airport, any unauthorized objects will be confiscated by the authorities.
- Ask which marine species are in hunting ban and avoid consuming them during that time.
